Android rules the market! More than 80.2% of all mobile phone users prefer Android and its intuitiveness. This means millions of people around the world shoot videos, capture cherished moments, store important information, conduct Instant Messaging marathons and in general, live their lives through this platform.
It is versatile and allows for the download of useful apps that extend its functionality. But what happens when one of these applications is riddled with virus and it corrupts the data card? Or if the phone suffers physical trauma and temporarily shuts down access to its contents? Or at the very least, how can Android device users cope with the problem of forgetfulness and retrieve accidentally deleted information?
The answer to these problems is Dr. Fone for Android which is a premium data recovery tool for Android devices.
It is a fast, light and powerful application that supports more than 2000 Android device makes and versions. It is very likely that your smartphone is a part of its database and can be rooted and scanned by the application.
So let’s perform data recovery for Android!
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
1. Stop using your device as soon as data loss happens. If you keep fiddling around with it, you may overwrite the existing information in the bin, rendering files and information permanently irretrievable. Connect your phone to a PC that has Dr. Fone installed on it ASAP to minimize the damage.
2. Without access to USB Debugging, Dr. Fone can’t identify your device or scan it. Make sure that this option is activated. Users can do so by:
- Choosing the Settings (gear) icon under the Apps tab.
- Tapping Developer Options. It is generally nestled beneath all the other choices.
- Selecting the ‘USB Debugging’ option.
3. Lastly, the phone’s battery must have at least 20% charge to ensure that the process progresses without glitches.
Dr. Fone has options to customize the Scan settings. It can retrieve data in multiple formats and even work with ‘deleted files’ or ‘all files’ specifications when it comes to selecting the type of information to be retrieved.
THE ACTUAL DATA RECOVERY PROCESS
Step 1: Connect your Phone to a PC with Dr. Fone Installed on it
The following screen greets you. It prompts you to connect the phone or tablet to the PC with the help of a USB cord.
At this stage, if the device has USB Debugging enabled, the identification starts. It typically takes a few minutes.
Upon successful identification, the screen prompts you to click ‘Next’.
If you are a repeat user, your device has already been ‘rooted’ before. You are likely to see a Super User request pop-up on your device. Click Allow.
Step 2: Choosing Data Type and Scan Mode
While Dr. Fone is capable of recovering multiple data types (text messages, WhatsApp messages, Videos, Images, Contacts), it is important to select only what is urgent. The more load on Dr. Fone, the slower is the final result.
This page allows you to choose what is needed.
Tick the checkboxes for file type/s you badly need to recover or you may simply use the convenient ‘Select All’ master checkbox to restore files in all specified formats.
This will take you to the Select Mode screen.
Here you must leave the Advanced Mode undisturbed and focus on the Standard Mode. Of the two radio button options, Scan for Deleted Files is the one you need to choose if you are only looking to recover data that has accidentally been deleted.
For data that is corrupted or otherwise inaccessible, Scan for All Files is what you should go with.
Clicking ‘Next‘ completes the preparatory formalities for the scan and it can now commence.
Step 3: Allow Dr.Fone to ‘Root’ and Analyze your Device
Dr. Fone applies a ‘root’ to your device to ensure that the probing doesn’t mess with the phone’s settings. When you hit Next to accept the root, the application also provides you with key information like the IMEI number of your model and the Android version. All the while, the scan will be in progress and the time left to completion is also available.
Step 4: Select Individual Files
As soon as Dr. Fone starts data recovery for Android, it displays the retrieved files by category on a screen similar to the image below.
You can ‘Pause’ or ‘Stop’ the scan to instantly restore items that are critical. Otherwise, you may allow the process to run its course.
When the scan finishes, first choose the data type from the left hand panel and then select the files that you require by checking its individual boxes. You may also tick the master checkbox, as seen below, to select data in bulk.
Alternatively, there’s a search button on the upper right if you are after a specific file. Just type the information you’re looking for and then run a search.
After selecting files to be recovered, the ‘Recover’ button is now available and clickable. Restored data will be exported to the PC for transfer to the smart device in question.
Messages are generally recovered as HTML files and contacts as vCards or .csv files. You can specify the folder and location where you want these data to be saved.
Who knew data recovery for Android is possible and so simple?
- Just connect the device to be scanned to the PC via a USB port.
