A Five-Step Mac Tutorial
After installing and opening Dr.Fone for Android, you will need to perform the steps outlined in the tutorial below. This specific tutorial shows recovering deleted files on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and 3. However, the steps are the same when using the Windows operating system.
Step 1: Connect the Device and Enable USB Debugging. Before the recovery process can begin, you will need to connect the phone to the computer used for installation. Dr.Fone appears as shown below until this step has been completed.
Next, in order to scan the phone and locate recoverable data, USB Debugging has to be enabled on the device. Directions are provided within the utility and you will need to select the appropriate version to complete this step. Click on the right version and the steps will appear on the screen.
If the operating system version is 4.2.2 or higher, you will also need to authorize the Mac (or Windows) computer via the device, as shown below:
After these steps have been completed, Dr.Fone will need a few minutes to identify the device.
Step 2: Choose the File Types You Want to Recover. Dr.Fone for Android provides several data retrieval options for a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or 3. If you want to recover everything then no other steps must be taken, as all file types are selected by default.
However, if only certain types need to be salvaged, click on each checkbox to select or remove an option. Then click on Next to continue.
Step 3: Configure the Recovery Mode. Dr.Fone provides the option to only scan for deleted files, locate everything on the phone, or to even perform an advanced scan. For this example we will be choosing Scan for Deleted Files. Click on the radial next to the appropriate option and then click on ‘Next’.
Step 4: Complete the File Scan. A couple of steps will need to be performed by Dr.Fone before the scan begins. This includes verifying the model and applying one-click root. To get started, click Next and then wait patiently for these processes to finish.
The scan will start as soon as the preliminary setup tasks have completed. In the left panel, each file type chosen in Step 2 will be displayed.
As the scan progresses, the number within parenthesis will increase and represents how many files have been found for each type. A progress bar is also provided at the top of the utility for viewing the current status of the scan.
It is possible to begin previewing located files prior to scan completion; however, recovery cannot be initiated until the scan is finished. Click on a file type in the left panel of the utility to begin reviewing the scan results.
Step 5: Finish the Data Recovery. With Dr.Fone, you can retrieve every file found during the scan or make custom selections. To recover every file, simply click on Recover in the bottom right of the screen. Otherwise, you may click on a specific type of file in the left panel and located items will be shown on the right side of the screen.
You also have the option to select only certain file types and all located files for those selections will be recovered. This is done by clicking on the checkbox next to each listed type in the left panel. A checkmark means that Dr.Fone will retrieve every found item for the data type.
The scan results will appear differently depending on what file type has been chosen. For example, if you click on Audios in the left panel, then a list of recoverable audio files will be shown on the right.
Additionally, certain file types will have more than one view option, which can be found in the upper right corner. In the example below, Gallery items are being shown and may be viewed as thumbnails or in a list format. A search feature is provided as well to make finding specific files a breeze.
Some file types provide an additional option for only viewing deleted items. This setting can be found at the top of the utility. For example, if you click on Messages, then you will be able to see only those that have been removed from the phone.
To make individual selections, click on the checkbox or thumbnail on the right portion of the screen. Any item with a checkmark is currently selected for recovery. In the example below, all Documents have been chosen and will be retrieved by Dr.Fone.
To complete the recovery, you must click on the ‘Recover’ button. You will then see a prompt window for configuring where the recovered items will be saved. Locate where you want to save the files and Dr.Fone will store all selected items to that location.
